Elizabeth Manley – Champion Figure Skater

Elizabeth Manley was born on August 7th, 1965 in Belleville Ontario, Canada

After spending many years in the United States performing and coaching Liz now lives in Ottawa with her husband and two dogs. Liz is a recipient of The Royal Order of Canada given by the Governor General. She has also written two autobiographies, Thumbs Up- The Elizabeth Manley Story and Elizabeth Manley- As I am. Liz has 3 older brothers Tim, Tom and Greg and has recently had the tragic loss of her mother Joan to Ovarian Cancer which she now works along side with Ovarian Cancer Canada in its fight to find a cure for such a terrible disease. Her father Bernard suffers from Alzheimer’s and is in the Perley Home in Ottawa and Liz also has teamed up with Alzheimer’s Canada as well in its efforts for awareness.

Liz now spends her time coaching at various clubs in the Ottawa-Carleton area. She also coaches at rink that the city named after her in Gloucester, Ontario. In total she coaches many talented skaters ranging from the pre-school level to competitive. She is running anniversary seminars across eastern Ontario for Skate Canada’s Can-Skate programming. She also runs Competitive seminars throughout Canada and the United States.

Amateur Career:

  1. Competed as an amateur from 1971-1988
  2. Liz was the first Canadian female to successfully land a triple-double combination jump in competition.
  3. Liz achieved over 50 national and international medals
  4. Liz competed at six World Championships during her career.
  5. In 1988 she placed second earning a Silver medal in Budapest Hungary.
  6. Competed in two Olympic Winter Games in 1984 in Sarajevo Yugoslavia and in 1988 in Calgary Alberta where she won the Silver medal in front of her home crowd.
  7. Liz was also awarded in 1988 at the Olympic Games with the Freestyle Gold medal
  8. In her competitive career she won three senior titles at the Canadian Figure Skating Championships, 2 Silver Medals, and one Bronze Medal

Professional Career:

  1. Competed as a professional from 1988-2002
  2. 4 time World Cup Champion
  3. 2 time U.S. Open Champion
  4. Rock n’ Roll on Ice Champion (competed against Kristi Yamaguchi)
  5. Diet Coke International Champion (competed against Katarina Witt)
  6. Legends of Figure Skating Champion (competed against Dorothy Hamill)
